Queen Elizabeth was reportedly shocked when she visited Kate Middleton and Prince William at their home at Anmer Hall for the first time.
An insider has told Express.co.uk that their lifestyle was so different from Queen Elizabeth's but what stood out for her and shocked her the most was when she found out that they and their kids spend a lot of time in their kitchen socializing.
The source revealed: "When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact the kitchen is the main base for them.
"For the Queen, she can't stand that because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing."
The visit highlighted the different lifestyle the couple has compared to the Queen.
The source added: "The kitchen she never goes down to when she’s at Balmoral, for instance. In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work."
But for Kate and William, they have their kitchen as the "main hub" of their home, and it leads into their dining room. The Queen's shock "shows how different life is" for Kate and William compared to the Queen. This shows that they are "very modern – not like old times"
